Richard Furie, MD, advises early-career clinicians to "respect lupus." Dr Furie adds that because of the heterogeneous nature of lupus, the rheumatologist must have a firm understanding of the multiple manifestations of the condition.
Dr Furie also tells rheumatologists to respect the medications in the lupus therapeutic armamentarium, and to judiciously administer agents with harmful side effects such as steroids, immunosuppressants, and biologics.
