NICE emphasises how exercise should be a core treatment for those with osteoarthritis irrespective of age, comorbidity, pain severity or disability, and should include local muscle strengthening and general aerobic fitness.
Advice should be offered on appropriate footwear, and for those with biomechanical joint pain or instability, assessment for bracing, joint supports, and insoles should be considered. Appropriate assistive devices can help a person with osteoarthritis overcome challenges with activities of daily living.
