In addition to examining the femoral, popliteal, and foot pulses, NICE advises asking those with suspected peripheral arterial disease about possible symptoms of intermittent claudication and critical limb ischaemia and examining the legs for signs of critical limb ischaemia such as ulceration. NICE states to also measure the ankle brachial pressure index.
