NICE recommends offering a very urgent full blood count - within 48 hours - for children and young people to assess for leukaemia if they have any of these symptoms – pallor, unexplained fever, unexplained persistent infection, persistent fatigue, unexplained bruising or unexplained bleeding, generalised lymphadenopathy, persistent or unexplained bone pain.

Unexplained petechiae or hepatosplenomegaly should prompt immediate specialist assessment for leukaemia.
