Follow-up and Duration of Immobilization

Duration of immobilization in a cast or splint depends on the fracture pattern and age of the patient and is usually 4 to 8 wk. Evidence of clinical or radiographic union is necessary before discontinuing a cast. Close follow-up is necessary to ensure the reduction remains in adequate alignment.
