Pouch re-do Versus Excision
In an effort to save failing pouches with septic complications, specialized centers have developed techniques to revise or re-do pouches instead of excision and permanent ileostomy. In these centers, pouch revision has been shown to have good short-term postoperative outcomes compared with pouch excision, with no significant difference in postoperative length of stay, mortality and short-term morbidity.[16] Table 4 compares and contrasts the indications for re-do pouch surgery versus excision of the pouch.
