Refinement of devices with use of less metal components and new bioabsorbable materials will expand the indications for percutaneous closure that might be the first line therapy for at least all secundum ASDs. For the other, more complex, types of defects, the advancements in minimally invasive surgery may make their repair simpler and safer with faster recovery.
