Drugs in the Pipeline
There are numerous drugs that are currently in the pipeline for gout management, some of which are summarized in Table 2. The general categories of drug mechanisms being explored are related to renal urate excretion, minimizing immunogenicity of uricase-based therapy, additional targets on the purine metabolism pathway and leveraging the gastrointestinal system for urate excretion. In addition, IL-1 inhibition and inflammasome targets are among the programmes in development for gout flare management.
