Which tests are done to exclude other diagnoses on the differential for chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP)?

To exclude other diagnoses on the differential such as infections, stones, abscesses, obstruction, or prostate cancer, further tests can be done, including the following:

  • Urethral swab and culture 
  • Screening for sexually transmitted infections 
  • Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing 
  • Uroflowmetry 
  • Retrograde urethrography 
  • Cystoscopy 
  • Prostate biopsy 
  • Transrectal ultrasound 
  • Renal ultrasound 
  • Prostate biopsy 
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scan
