Answer

Risks to the mother from fluoroquinolones must also be considered. In May 2016 the FDA advised that the risks of fluoroquinolones generally outweigh the benefits for patients with uncomplicated infections, including UTIs, and recommended reserving fluoroquinolones for patients who do not have alternative treatment options. Disabling and potentially permanent serious adverse effects associated with fluoroquinolones have involved tendons, muscles, joints, nerves, and the central nervous system. [26]
