The British Royal College of Physicians guidelines are similar; they suggest treating everyone who has evidence of alcohol abuse and any one of the following:

  • Acute confusion

  • Decreased consciousness

  • Ataxia

  • Ophthalmoplegia

  • Memory disturbances

  • Hypothermia hypotension
