After recovery from the acute infection, patients may be candidates for elective surgery to reverse conditions that predispose to recurrent kidney infections and damage, such as the following:

  • Congenital anomalies
  • Fistulae involving the urogenital tract
  • Prostatic hyperplasia
  • Kidney calculi
  • Vesicoureteral reflux
