When are imaging studies indicated in the evaluation of acute pyelonephritis (kidney infection)?

Indications for imaging studies are as follows:

  • Fever or positive blood culture results that persist for longer than 48 hours
  • Sudden worsening of the patient’s condition
  • Toxicity persisting for longer than 72 hours
  • Complicated urinary tract infection
