Answer

Complicated UTI is an infection of the urinary tract in which the efficacy of antibiotics is reduced because of the presence of one or more of the following:

  • Structural abnormalities of the urinary tract
  • Functional abnormalities of the urinary tract
  • Metabolic abnormalities predisposing to UTIs
  • Unusual pathogens
  • Recent antibiotic use
  • Recent urinary tract instrumentation
