While historical clues and physical examination findings may suggest a causative pathogen, the clinical signs and symptoms of CAP are not sufficiently specific to reliably differentiate the exact etiologic agent. [6] Therefore, additional testing remains necessary to identify the pathogen and to optimize therapy in CAP.
