Answer

Primary GI CMV disease in solid organ transplant recipients is difficult to treat and may relapse. The relapse rate was recently studied in solid organ transplant recipients following treatment for CMV infection at the Mayo clinic. The investigators found that extensive involvement of the GI tract was significantly associated with CMV relapse but that endoscopic resolution of GI disease did not necessarily translate into a reduced risk of CMV relapse.
