CMV nephritis is defined as CMV detection in combination with a renal biopsy showing CMV-associated changes in the setting of renal failure. [8] CMV PCR alone is inadequate for diagnosis. Of note, detection of CMV in the urine of a patient with renal failure does not meet diagnostic criteria for CMV nephritis. [8] CMV viremia has been associated with acute glomerular injury. [30]
