Answer

Answer

Peripheral iridectomy

To achieve an iridectomy with a wide base, hold the scissors parallel to the limbus, pull the iris away from the scissors while a first cut is made, and then push the iris toward the scissors while a second cut is made to complete the iridectomy.

When pulling the iris to make the iridectomy, seeing a peaked pupil indicates a good grasp on the iris. Be wary of cutting the iris if the entire pupillary border is not visible because this could lead to an inadvertent sector iridectomy.
