Answer

Answer

Exhaled nitric oxide (eNO) levels correlate with eosinophilic airway inflammation and are reduced by corticosteroid therapy. However, in a large, randomized trial of inner-city adolescent asthma patients, using eNO to guide medication decisions resulted in higher doses of inhaled corticosteroids being given without clinically important improvements in symptomatic asthma control. Exhaled breath condensate and exhaled breath temperature are also novel biomarkers that have been studied.
