What are the signs and symptoms of migraine in children aged 5-10 years?

In children aged 5-10 years, migraine typically has the following features:

  • Bifrontal, bitemporal, or retro-orbital headache

  • Nausea

  • Abdominal cramping

  • Vomiting

  • Photophobia

  • Phonophobia

  • A need to sleep

Children of this age usually fall asleep within 1 hour of attack onset. The most common accompanying symptoms include the following:

  • Pallor with dark circles under the eyes (migraine facies)

  • Tearing

  • Swollen nasal passages

  • Thirst

  • Edema

  • Excessive sweating

  • Increased urination

  • Diarrhea
