Subluxation of the ulnar nerve is common. Childress, in a study of 2000 asymptomatic elbows, found that although none of the patients were aware of ulnar nerve subluxation, 16.2% had this condition after flexion past 90°. [53] Of the 325 patients with ulnar nerve subluxation, only 14 had unilateral subluxation. Subluxation does not appear to cause cubital tunnel syndrome, but the friction generated with repeated subluxation may cause intraneural inflammation, and the subluxed position may render the nerve more susceptible to inadvertent trauma.
