Findings from the history may include the following:

  • History of picking, digging, or scraping the skin

  • Presence or absence of an inciting incident

  • Personal problems (eg, history of abuse)

  • Psychiatric history that includes a comorbid mental disorder

  • Nasal ulcerations

  • Facial acne
