Pharmacologic asthma management includes the use of agents for control and agents for relief. Control agents include the following:

  • Inhaled corticosteroids

  • Inhaled cromolyn or nedocromil

  • Long-acting bronchodilators

  • Theophylline

  • Leukotriene modifiers

  • Anti-immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies (omalizumab)
