  • Paradoxical thoracoabdominal movement occurs

  • Wheezing may be absent (in patients with the most severe airway obstruction)

  • Severe hypoxemia may manifest as bradycardia

  • Pulsus paradoxus may disappear: This finding suggests respiratory muscle fatigue
